Excelsior Sports Training Makes an Impact

September 17, 2007

Excelsior Physical and Occupational Therapy has a new sports training division that is off and running. Excelsior Sports Training held a Fit to Play - Soccer program this summer with players trying out for the Canisius High School Soccer team.

The Canisius athletes took the Excelsior Sports Training Fit to Play - Soccer program in order to get themselves ready for the soccer season. The program focused on strength, speed and vertical jump. By the end of the course, the benefits included increased flexibility, higher endurance and better footwork. For example, in the 20 Yard Dash, the participants averaged a .08 second decrease in their time. The same group also increased their vertical jump on average by over 1.4 inches.

Coach Sam Belsito from Canisius High School was impressed with the quality of the athletes. He said that the “difference between this time last year and this year is night and day, the players looked phenomenal.” During a recent game between Canisius and big rival Nichols – a parent commented that the team members looked faster and more agile on the field. The game ended with Canisius winning 2 to 1. Upcoming Excelsior Sports Training programs are going to be held on an ongoing basis – call for details 250-6500.

The Excelsior Sports Training program was developed by Josette Fisher and Ron Brissette of Excelsior Physical and Occupational Therapy, using the Vern Gambetta method. Excelsior Sports Training challenges athletes to achieve athletic excellence as they train for their sport.
